To make the most of the properties offered by itsój food thermos, Esbit suggests „formatting” the thermos before use. If you plan to transport hot items – before placing them in the thermos, fill it with hot water for about 4 minutes, then pour out the water and place the food. An analogy should be made for cool things (fill the thermos with very cold water). This way the desired temperature is maintained for longer.

A noteworthy solution is the use of a button safety valve in the construction of the cap - its pressing before unscrewing the cap releases excess pressure (often generated during storage of a hot meal/liquid) practically eliminating the risk of 'shooting' the cap or hot steam, whichós sometimes accompanied by hot contents splashing to the sides.
